Last week, the MA Senate approved an amendment to the Transportation Bond Bill (H3882/S2023) in support of pre-apprenticeship training! Specifically, the language requires that MassDOT provide funding for 300 people per year to get pre-apprenticeship training for construction jobs for each of the next five years.
Now, the conference committee has been assigned, and we need to reach out to them to ensure this language stays in the final bill.
The House appointed Reps. William Straus (D-Mattapoisett), Stephen Kulik (D-Worthington), and Peter Durant (R-Spencer) last Wednesday. On Monday, the Senate appointed Sens. Tom McGee (D-Lynn), Stephen Brewer (D-Barre) and Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth) to the conference committee.
PLEASE contact your state representative and ask him or her to speak to House Ways and Means Chairman Brian Dempsey, House Transportation Chair William Straus and the other conferees about supporting this funding in the final Transportation Bond Bill passed by the House-Senate conference committee.
And if your Senator signed onto the amendment, please send them a thank you and urge them to continue standing up to keep the Senate amendment for this funding in the final bill.
We’ll be updating as the bill progresses; stay tuned!
