Weekly Workforce Round Up: January 23-February 3, 2014

Welcome to the Weekly Roundup!  Below are this week’s workforce news, resources and updates.

This was an exciting week for workforce news.  Most notably, President Obama, during the State of the Union Address, announced an “Opportunity for All” agenda that included a new government-wide initiative, led by Vice President Biden, to re-tool our nation’s workforce education and training programs so they are more responsive to the needs of local industry, and more effective in helping local folks gain access to skilled jobs with good wages.  That was followed by a White House meeting with CEOs, including Massachusetts’ own Michael Tamasi of AccuRounds, to discuss a new initiative to help the long-term unemployed.

In addition, SkillWorks’ partner Year Up was highlighted on CBS’ 60 minutes for their work to close the opportunity divide for young adults.

Read about these initiatives and lots more below.  Please add anything we missed by using the “comments” field.
